Flagstaff’s Life and Legends

History

During the Civil War, history recounts a young patriotic man climbing a lightning-struck tree to hoist a flag of the United States.  From this time forward the property became known as “Flagstaff.”  Prior to this, it is believed that Lenni Lenape Indians would climb Flagstaff as a lookout over the entire region.

In 1901, a trolley was constructed over Flagstaff Mountain to link the towns of Mauch Chunk (now Jim Thorpe) and Lehighton. Later, recognizing the desire to attract visitors to the area, the rail companies encouraged the construction of a park, and the Flagstaff Amusement Park was born.

At another time, it became known as “Roof Top of The World,” with a steel lookout platform constructed above the ballroom.

Jim Thorpe is a borough and the county seat of Carbon County in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania.

The town of Jim Thorpe has been called the “Switzerland of America”, due to the picturesque scenery, mountainous location, and architecture, and is also known as the “Gateway to the Poconos”. It is located in eastern Pennsylvania about 80 miles north of Philadelphia and 100 miles west of New York City.

The town of Jim Thorpe gets its name from the American athlete and Olympic gold medalist, James Francis Thorpe. Jim Thorpe was a member of the Sac and Fox Nation. Thorpe became the first Native American to win a gold medal in the Olympics for the United States.

Today & The Future

We are excited to embark on this exciting journey and are happy you decided to join us!

Park Paver Bricks

The paver bricks will be Laser engraved which is a natural and permanent process. The method is quite simple; the beam melts the clay of the brick into the desired mark. The laser mark is smooth, hard, and adhered permanently to the surrounding brick material.

Laser Marking Will Last a Lifetime: Each laser-engraved brick is a small monument of memorabilia and will endure for generations.  The mark will never lose its clarity or luster.

$100 for 4” x 8” brick

$150 for 8” x 8” brick
